Named for its nightly ritual — those bold, feathered leaves literally fold upward at dusk like praying hands, then unfurl flat again come morning. This movement, called nyctinasty, is thought to help the plant capture more light and shed rainwater more efficiently back in its native Brazilian rainforest home. Basically it's on its own circadian schedule, doing yoga while you sleep. Those vivid red veins and painterly patterns don't hurt either — this one earns its keep as both décor and daily entertainment.
